Our Commitment to Respectful and Safe Care Policy

At the Thai Travel Clinic and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, we care for travelers and patients from Thailand and from around the world, every day. Many of our patients are unwell, worried, or far from home. A clinic is not an easy place to be. We understand that, and we try to make it a place where every patient feels respected and safe.

This page explains what you can expect from us, and what we ask from you in return. It applies to every person who visits our clinic, communicates with us by email, or joins a teleconsultation with our doctors.

What you can expect from us

    • We will treat you with dignity, compassion, and respect at every visit, regardless of your background, nationality, religion, gender, or beliefs.
    • We will listen carefully to your concerns and take time to understand your symptoms and your history.
    • We will welcome your questions — including questions that challenge our recommendations. You are always free to disagree respectfully and to seek a second opinion.

What we ask from you

    • Please treat our doctors, nurses, administrative staff, security personnel, and other patients with the same respect you expect for yourself.
    • Please understand that different doctors may hold different opinions, and that our recommendations may differ from those you have received elsewhere.
    • Please understand that our doctors make clinical decisions based on professional judgment and accepted medical practice, not on patient request alone. We may decline to order tests, prescribe medications/vaccines, or perform procedures that are not clinically indicated.

Behavior we cannot tolerate

Our clinic is a shared space. Our staff and our other patients are entitled to a safe and dignified environment. The following behavior is not acceptable in our clinic, in our emails, or during teleconsultations:

    • Threats, intimidation, or aggressive confrontation
    • Verbal abuse, shouting, or insulting language
    • Physical aggression or violence
    • Sexual harassment, including inappropriate comments or physical contact
    • Any behavior that disrupts our services or compromises the safety of others

Our response to such behavior depends on the circumstances, but may include:

    • Ending the consultation immediately
    • Asking you to leave the clinic premises
    • Involving hospital security or the Thai police
    • Pursuing legal action in serious cases

These actions are not taken lightly. They exist to protect everyone — our staff, our other patients, and ultimately the quality of care we are able to provide.

A note on illness and distress

We understand that prolonged illness, pain, fear, and disappointment can be stressful. If you are feeling overwhelmed during a visit, please tell us. We would far rather pause, offer you a quiet moment, or reschedule than let a difficult situation escalate. However being frustrated or unwell are never the excuses for harming others either verbally or physically.

If something goes wrong

If you feel that you have not been treated with the respect you deserve by any member of our team, we want to know. Please contact us at [email protected] so that we can review what happened and respond appropriately. We take complaints seriously and we use them to improve our care.
