Research Project:

Prevalence and Factors Contributing to Incompleteness of Rabies Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Among International Travelers

Poster 4th version TS31MAY25 stamped

Preface:

Thank you for your interest in our research. Your participation helps advance our understanding of how international travelers manage rabies prevention after possible exposure. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our principal investigator, Dr. Tanatorn Soravipukuntorn, or speak with any staff at the Thai Travel Clinic.

Background:

Rabies is a deadly disease that can be prevented with timely and complete post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). International travelers who are bitten or scratched by mammals while abroad are at risk but often face challenges completing the full course of rabies PEP, especially after returning home.

This study aims to understand how often travelers do not complete their rabies PEP and explore the reasons behind it. The findings will help improve rabies prevention strategies and post-exposure care for future travelers.

People who may participate in this research are as follows:

  • You are an international traveler who came to our clinic for rabies PEP after a potential animal exposure
  • You are able to complete the questionnaire in English
  • You agree to participate by signing the informed consent form

Note: Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Your decision will not affect the medical care or services you receive at our clinic.

Research Methodology:

If you agree to participate, you will be asked to:

  1. Complete a short questionnaire at your first clinic visit, which includes basic information, travel details, and your experience following the exposure.
  2. Complete a follow-up questionnaire online (via Google Form) around the date of your final rabies vaccine dose (usually Day 28). This will help us understand if you were able to complete your vaccination schedule and any challenges you faced.

A link to the online questionnaire will be sent to your email. You may also choose to receive it via Line or WhatsApp if you prefer.

This research is a part of the Residency Training in Travel Medicine and the Master Degree of Clinical Tropical Medicine (MCTM) course.

The principle investigator of this research is Dr. Tanatorn Soravipukuntorn.
